Chelsea Signs Gonzalo Higuain On Loan To Bolster Top-4 Hopes

Chelsea has added another striker to the mix making the signing of Gonzalo Higuain official.

He will play the rest of the year on loan and hope to turn around the Blues’ scoring woes.

Chelsea has scored two goals in Premier League action this month where the team stands at 1-1-1. It ranks lowest of the top six in goals with 40 and it’s not really close. Manchester United ranks fifth with 46 and top-ranked Manchester City is leading with an astounding 62.

Higuain still has gas in the tank at 31 years old. The striker most recently was on loan to AC Milan, where he scored six goals in 15 Serie A appearances.

Not so recently, fans remember his 10-year span of dominance playing up front for Real Madrid followed by Napoli.

With the possibility of Higuain up front surrounded by Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Pedro, he is sure to like his chances of becoming a high-volume scorer that has been missing within the club.

If successful, Chelsea could extend Higuain’s loan or permanently sign him for 41$ million.

Higuain will wear his usual No. 9 for the Blues, which definitely will make superstitious fans nervous. The number has been worn by some of Chelsea's headache players over the last decade.

Higuain will join the likes of Falcao, Fernando Torres and Chelsea's most recent and expensive headache, Alvaro Morata.

“I’m really excited to be here, to work with Maurizio Sarri again and to be at a club with so much history,” Higuain said.

Higuain is Chelsea's second major signing of the January transfer window after Christian Pulisic, although the latterr won't join the club until the summer.

Chelsea remains in fourth in the EPL with a three-point edge over Arsenal and Manchester United. The squad will be back in EPL action when it faces Bournemouth on Wednesday.
