Former Orlando Striker Cyle Larin Shows Signs Of Life In Turkey With Curious Hat Trick

Cyle Larin is one of Canada’s bright young stars, having moved to Beşiktaş in January. But the 23-year-old striker didn’t find much playing time in Turkey, appearing just a couple times for the Black and Whites this season. But that all changed Saturday with a stunning Cyle Larin hat trick, although the last goal was kind of questionable.

Beşiktaş closed out a disappointing season against Sivasspor on Saturday at home. The winners of the last two Turkish Super Leagues, Beşiktaş finished fourth this season, missing out on a chance at the Champions League.

Perhaps for this reason, manager Şenol Güneş decided to give Larin a rare start, his second of the season and fourth appearance overall in league play. The former Orlando City man responded in impressive fashion as Beşiktaş cruised to a 5-1 victory thanks to the Cyle Larin hat trick.

The first goal showed off Larin’s leaping ability as he rose well to head in a corner kick in the 50th minute.

In the 74th minute, Larin made it 3-1 by using his pace and taking advantage of a mistimed offside trap.

The final goal of the Cyle Larin hat trick came two minutes later, thanks to a bit of fortune. Brazilian midfielder Talisca took a speculative shot from long range that caromed of the chest of an unsuspecting Larin and into the back of the net. The goal was given to Larin to complete his hat trick.

The first and third goals may account for the highest total of jersey numbers between goal and assist man in the history of soccer, with Talisca wearing 94 and Larin wearing 95, the year of each player’s birth.

The Cyle Larin hat trick was a rare positive this year for the young Canadian, who did not leave Orlando City on the best of terms in January. Larin struggled to find his place at Beşiktaş this year, but perhaps this performance will be just what he needs to kick on and get into the side next season.
