Alex Morgan wants a three-peat.
The ESPN+ exclusive four-part series “Alex Morgan: The Equalizer” concluded with the USWNT star striker saying she’s not planning to retire anytime soon. The 30-year-old has her eyes on more medals and an unprecedented third Women’s World Cup title.
“I just look at continuing to play on top of my game and bring home more medals,” Morgan said. “There’s really no end point in sight. I feel like I’m still pretty young and have a lot more to offer to the game.
“For me, I want another World Cup, so it’s not super soon. Four more years.”
Morgan won the Silver Boot as she helped the United States win the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France this summer. She was one of the tournament’s biggest stars, though she drew some criticism from (fun-hating) Brits for celebrating a goal with a sip of tea.
Earlier this year, Morgan hit the 100-goal mark for the U.S. and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition.
Morgan will turn 34 during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, but Megan Rapinoe won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at that age this year.
With 107 goals, Morgan is tied with Michelle Akers for fifth-most all time in USWNT history. She’s got a way to go to catch Abby Wambach’s all-time record of 184; Morgan would have to play 122 more games to reach 184 goals at her current pace.
Morgan has returned to her NWSL team the Orlando Pride but won’t play in the USWNT’s first match of the team’s Victory Tour on Saturday against Ireland due to an undisclosed injury.
