Portland's Providence Park Featured In Rapper's New Music Video

MLS is mainstream, what else is there to say? Superstar rapper Aminé recently returned from a year-long music hiatus with his new song “Shimmy” and an accompanying music video featuring everything Portland. Of course Providence Park couldn't be left out of the Aminé "Shimmy" video.

For those only looking for Providence Park, 0:15 to 0:25 time stamps in the video show the Portland-based rapper shimmying around the stadium. A keen eye will also notice the word “SHIMMY” in white on the seats in the upper level.

Providence Park is one of the holy grails of football in North America. So, it makes sense that Aminé put the venue in his video. Providence Park was also the location for the NWSL’s single-game attendance record in 2019, when the Portland Thorns hosted the North Carolina Courage in front of a sell-out crowd.

The rapper’s relationship with the club doesn’t stop at the music video. On Wednesday, Portland tweeted out its 2020 uniforms and iconic axe with Aminé.

This type of celebrity exposure goes to show the popularity of the sport in U.S. pop culture. An artist with over a billion plays on Spotify and a prolific sports team go hand in hand.

The Timbers begin their shimmying with the season opener on Sunday, March 1, as they host Minnesota United at what will surely be a packed Providence Park.
