If The Yellowstone Supervolcano Erupts Early, You Won't Have To Watch The USA-Less World Cup

The U.S. Men's National Team's failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia marked the worst moment in recent history for a country still trying to establish itself in world footballing circles. Watching the World Cup just won't be the same without the USA there.

Distraught USMNT fans might be in luck, though, because USA Today reported that the Supervolcano under Yellowstone National Park might erupt earlier than expected:

Scientists working in and around Yellowstone National Park say that the supervolcano sitting under the tourist attraction may blow sooner than thought, an eruption that could wipe out life on the planet.

According to the article, even though it has long been thought the signs of a supervolcanic eruption would manifest themselves over thousands of years, the reality might be decades instead of millennia.

Considering recent upward trends in climate change and prevalence of earthquakes, maybe the eruption could be moved up in timeline to this winter or spring, meaning USMNT fans wouldn't have to watch the World Cup without the USA there.

If all major life forms on Earth were wiped out by a supervolcanic eruption and ensuing volcanic winter, USA fans wouldn't have to spend the summer hearing commentators make snide little asides about how the Americans failed to qualify, not to mention they wouldn't be fretting about the future of soccer in America being in doubt after all the progress that has been made.

I assume most if not all doomsday bunkers don't get FOX Sports, which would mean even the survivors wouldn't be able to hear Taylor Twellman grinding his teeth into dust live on air, barely concealing his rage at not seeing the USA in Russia.

And, given the supervolcano is based in Wyoming, if the World Cup is wiped out by a volcanic apocalypse, you might say the USA won.
