Iconic Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets announced that he will retire following the conclusion of Inter Miami’s 2025 MLS season. The 37-year-old will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest midfielders we’ve ever seen.
Following the news of his retirement, fans have fondly looked back at Busquets highlights over his decorated career. There will arguably never be a more cool and collected defensive midfielder in the world.
Here are seven minutes of Busquets bossing the midfield as if his life depended on it.

Busquets’ retirement will officially mark the end of an era for Spanish football. The former Barcelona man was an integral part of Spain’s dominance in the early 2010’s including their World Cup triumph in South Africa.
Plenty of debate will be had about the greatest midfield trio in history, but it’s incredibly difficult to argue against that Busquets, Andrés Iniesta and Xavi midfield.
Busquets will absolutely go down as one of the greatest CDM’s in history. It’s crazy to think that his fellow countryman and defensive midfielder Rodri has a Ballon d’Or but Busquets doesn’t.
We don’t think Busquets will be too upset about that, though. He can just sit back and look at his extensive trophy cabinet with a smile.
Sergio Busquets didn’t just play the game—he completed it.
