Ronaldinho fans, you might want to skip this one. This is the most depressing highlight video you will ever see.

It opens with Dinho beating one defender but having the ball taken away from him (he did win a corner), and it gets worse from there. If you like easy ground passes, this is the video for you. In fairness to Ronaldinho, there is one moment of magic, in the form of a vintage Dinho free kick goal.

Chivas de Guadalajara have been looking for something, anything, to either get them out of the relegation zone, or at least take their minds off of it for the time being. And  this weekend Marco Fabian may have provided it. Poetry in motion, skills that pay the bills, whatever idiom or phrase you want to use to describe this works, because it’s awesome.  

Costa Ricans are, quite frankly, killing it in the world of soccer. They only lost outright once in all of 2014. Their national team took the world by surprise this past summer in Brazil. There is not an honest person in the world who can say that they actually thought that Costa Rica could have gotten out of a group that included Uruguay, England, and Italy, make it to the quarterfinals, and come within a few penalty kicks of making it to the semifinals. Their national team can boast players from La Liga, the Eredivisie, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and the MLS.

If only Miguel Herrera, current El Tri coach, could have lined-up his squad with players of Mexico’s past. Imagine El Niño de Oro, Hugo Sanchez lining up with Jared Borgetti in attack. Former Barcelona defender Rafa Marquez breaking up attacks before they ever made it to the great Jorge Campos. This team would have finally quenched El Tri fans insatiable thirst for glory. There hardly would have been an international team that could have stopped them. 

With the MLS starting this past weekend our attention has been focused stateside, and it seemed for a moment that Liga MX might be doomed to the role of second banana until someone raises the MLS Cup come next fall. How naive of us to believe that Liga MX could ever be outdone. 

Spearheading the league’s charge back to the center of our attention is Tigres coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti, who got sent off on Sunday during Tigres vs Universidad de Guadalajara. At which point he decided to disregard things like rules and age-appropriate behavior: 

This past weekend was a weekend to remember for Americanistas all around.

The first round of the group stages of the 2015 Copa Libertadores finished differently for Mexico’s only two representatives. Atlas suffered a demoralizing defeat, while Tigre’s snatched a great win. Way to go, Tigres. 

There was plenty of action last weekend in Mexico’s Liga MX. 

Clausura 2015 is proving to be just what soccer fans need during the dead of winter: provider of matches that keep the chills of winter at bay with heated competition and surprises around every corner. That said, Liga MX took a surprising turn this weekend with many matches that changed the landscape of the Clausura table. 

Most players think about how to assimilate themselves into the game in the first few moments after being subbed on. You know, play a good pass or figure out who they need to mark. They typically won’t try anything too crazy because they don’t feel confident enough to do so just yet. Charlatans we say, all of them.

The news came down recently (and, by recently, we mean a few weeks ago) that Carlos Vela will be out for at least two months for Real Sociedad with a torn meniscus. Now, this is undeniably bad for Real Sociedad, but how will it affect Vela’s other squad, the Mexico National Team?

Vela had just began appearing in games for El Tri before the injury, after a long holdout. And he played really well, scoring two goals against The Netherlands back in November.
