Mexico’s Liga MX is a league known for its breadth. That is, rather than just a few clubs consistently taking home trophies, championships have been spread (relatively) widely across the league. As a point of comparison, 11 different Mexican clubs in the Primera Division have taken home either the Apertura or Clausura trophies (or both) in the past 10 years, compared to only 3 teams (Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea) to win the English Premier League title over the same period.

Estadio Azteca in Mexico City is full of hooligans. Fans of Club America, which plays its home games at Azteca, do not particularly care about the concept of “boundaries” or “crossing the line.” They throw bags of urine (among other things) at people.

The 2015 Edition of South America’s version of the UEFA Champions League is underway. Current holders San Lorenzo are the team to beat. The Argentine team defeated Paraguay’s Nacional for their first Copa Libertadores trophy last season, winning the Libertadores with a 2-1 aggregate score line, after two thrilling games. Now that the tournament is back underway, Mexico has various teams vying for the opportunity to win the South American Champions League. 

Cuauhtémoc Blanco, the 41-year-old Mexican star and one of the most entertaining players alive, showed that he's still the man, scoring two goals against Santos Laguna in Puebla's last game of the season. The game ended 3-3, with both of Blanco's goals being equalizers in the second half. Blanco simply would not let Puebla lose, proving that the greats can always conjure a moment of magic when the game is on the line.

Liga MX is one of the most popular leagues in the world, only more so as the popularity of soccer rises around the world. But what do you do if you are suspicious your friends have only started to follow a Liga MX team in the name of glory hunting, or simply as a flavor-of-the-week? 1. Saying, “Odiame Mas,” either makes them your best friend or worst enemy.

Forty-one-year-old Cuauhtemoc Blanco doesn’t look like a soccer player.

He looks like a 41-year-old bank teller, or a 41-year-old janitor, or a 41-year-old accountant.

Certainly not like the second leading scorer in Mexico national team history, or the leading scorer in Confederations Cup history (tied with Ronaldinho).
