Here’s a fine example of the commentator’s curse (not that Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa No. 1 Itumeleng Khune could do much about it). With the broadcasters waxing lyrical about Khune’s distribution from goalkeeper, Polokwane City’s Walter Musona stepped up and drilled a sensational free kick into the top corner.
The 22-year-old’s knuckleball dipped venomously after soaring over the wall from 35 yards out. The technique on the hit is immaculate. Scoring from there on the three-time South African Goalkeeper of the Season requires nothing short of perfection, and Musona delivered.
Musona has been capped twice by the Zimbabwe national team and appeared briefly for Slovakia’s FK Senica before returning to African club football in 2016.
