Australia played China in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup. Australia won 2-0, mostly on the strength of a man named Tim Cahill, who scored both goals. One of those goals, shown below, was a pretty run-of-the-mill goal.
Right? That was a nice goal, the ball went in the back of the net and everything, but as far as goals go it was fairly rudimentary. The other one was, um, not.
This is not Tim Cahill's first world-class goal. This summer, his goal against the Netherlands in the World Cup was nominated for the Puskas Award, which is given annually to the person who does the best impression of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Both these goals are, obviously, incredible. But which one was better?
If the moment is factored in, the World Cup goal obviously wins, because there is no bigger stage in all of sports. That said, we think the bicycle kick is a little trickier, and it did come in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup, so it's not like he was screwing around at practice or something.
In a close one, we give the win to the World Cup goal. The World Cup is the World Cup and a Puskas Award nomination is nothing to blow your nose at.
