If This Doesn’t Get You Excited For The U17 World Cup, Something Will

India will host the FIFA U17 World Cup in exactly one month. They’re excited. So is FIFA. So much so they put together this joyful music video for the official song of the tournament: “Kar Ke Dikhla De Goal.”

The U17 World Cup is one of the best soccer events in the world. Although it doesn’t have the star power of the full World Cup or the Champions League, the tournament is one of the most egalitarian in the world.

For starters, the usual suspects aren’t the only ones who have a chance of winning. In fact, Africa, which has never come close to winning a World Cup, has won seven of the 16 youth World Cups dating back to 1985 (Nigeria has won five times). Asia (Saudi Arabia) has won once too while Mexico has won twice. Europe only has three titles.

Second, these kids are playing for one thing: to win. Sure, some of these players will eventually become huge stars, but most are playing for the pride of representing their country. It’s soccer in its purest form.

India will open the tournament against the United States on Oct. 6 in New Delhi. The Americans, who will be led by PSG summer signing Timothy Weah (son of legendary Liberian player George Weah), also face Colombia and Ghana in the group stage (always Ghana!). Mexico is in the group of death with England, Chile and Iraq.

When it comes to YouTube, there are worse channels to subscribe to than FIFATV, the official FIFA channel. Sure you could watch cat videos all day, but this music video does a decent job of reminding everyone of the joy of soccer at the U17 level.
