French Women Show Off Brilliant Flair In Goal Vs. Spain

The French men’s national team has been looking better and better recently, rocketing up to No. 8 in the most recent FIFA World Rankings. The women, though, are still better, as evidenced by a Eugenie Le Sommer goal in a friendly against Spain on Monday.

Les Bleues are currently ranked No. 4 in the world and dispatched No. 17 Spain 3-1 thanks to a gorgeous bit of football between Ouleymata Sarr and Le Sommer.

Sarr starts the play with a clever back-heel flip right into the path of Le Sommer, who chests the ball down in stride and marches toward goal. A deft through ball plays Sarr into the box where she plays a perfect square ball back to Le Sommer, who blasts a left-footed strike into the top corner.

Le Sommer also set up two goals with corner kicks as France cruised to victory. Les Bleues host the Women’s World Cup in 2019 and they’ll be among the favorites to lift the trophy.
