Orlando City Midfielder Will Johnson Arrested On Domestic Battery Charges

Orlando City midfielder Will Johnson was suspended by MLS Wednesday following his arrest on domestic battery charges stemming from an incident early Tuesday morning at the player's home.

According to the police report, the incident involved Caroline Johnson, Will Johnson’s wife of nearly five years, though the two are currently going through a divorce. According to the report, during a verbal argument Will turned his phone’s audio recorder on, but when Caroline grabbed the phone to turn it off, Will ran over to her, wrapped his arms around her waist and the two fell to the ground on the brick patio. Caroline had cuts and bruises from the alleged incident.

Johnson leads outfield players with 23 league starts for the Lions, but will not play while MLS and the Orlando Police Department investigate the episode. The 30-year-old has 43 caps with Canada and was set to return from a two-week injury layoff after the international break.

This isn’t the first run-in with the law for an Orlando City player this year. In June, Canadian rising star Cyle Larin missed three games after a DUI arrest. The No. 1 pick in the 2015 SuperDraft, Larin leads the team with 10 goals this season and is the club’s all-time leading scorer with 41.
