Erling Haaland needed all of 185 seconds to score in the new EPL season

Erling Haaland may never let go of the Premier League’s golden boot award. He only needed 185 seconds to score in the 2023-24 EPL opening game before he added a second goal later in the first half.

Burnley hosted the defending European and Premier League champions Manchester City on Friday and got a harsh welcome back to England’s top flight with a 3-0 battering.

The home crowd at Turf Moor were immediately silenced when Haaland scored in the fourth minute.

Haaland goals vs Burnley

This was a classic poacher’s goal from the Norwegian.

His second goal of the game was far more dazzling as he took a one-time shot the hit off the crossbar and in. Haaland goal No. 2 of the 2023-24 season came just 22 minutes after his first and put City up 2-0.

Haaland is all about breaking records and he’s already done so in the first game of the season. No player had ever scored the first two goals of a new season until now.

It’s hard to imagine anyone stopping him from winning another golden boot. In the 2022-23 campaign Harry Kane was the closest to Haaland’s 36 goals with a total of 30. The next closest player was Ivan Toney with 20, but he’s been banned from playing until 2024 after breaches in betting rules.

Kane left Tottenham to join Bayern Munich this summer which means Haaland might have no competition for the golden boot.

Rodri added City’s third and final goal on Friday in the 75th minute.

There wasn’t too much to report on Burnley as they managed one shot on target the whole game. American fans will be interested in following 18-year-old Luca Koleosho who started for Burnley.

Koleosho was born in Connecticut and could represent the USMNT, Canada, Italy or Nigeria.
