Real Madrid officially announced the signing of French international and former Paris Saint-Germain player Kylian Mbappé on Monday morning.

The club released a public statement across their social media platforms confirming the Frenchman’s transfer to the Galacticos and contract signature until 2029.

Madrid, who had reportedly reached an agreement with the Mbappé camp months prior, wanted to wait until the end of the campaign to announce the French striker’s signing and considering Mbappé’s wish to have his next club confirmed before his participation with France in the Euro 2024, the official announcement came almost immediately after their conclusion to the 2023/24 season.

Mbappé, who arrives to Madrid as a free agent, will be earning $16.2 million a year (after taxes) and will be receiving a $150 million signing bonus spread over his five-year deal, according to multiple reports.

The 2022 World Cup winner confirmed his departure from PSG last month following seven years with the club after stating he “needed a new challenge”. He lead Parisians to their first-ever UEFA Champions League final in 2020 and won the Ligue 1 Golden Boot on six separate occasions, scoring 256 goals across all competitions to become the club’s all-time goalscorer.

Mbappé’s transfer to Spain is one undoubtedly one of the biggest transfers in soccer history, ending a transfer saga that dates back until 2016 and reached an all-time high just two seasons ago when the Frenchman made the decision to renew with PSG despite having an agreement with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to sign for the club as a free agent.

Now, despite the 25-year-old’s transfer being perhaps the most anticipated Real Madrid signing since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, the Frenchman is expected to be presented in front the fans at the Santiago Bernabéu until mid-July and after the conclusion of the Euro Championship this summer.

Mbappé will be joining Real Madrid after completing the Champions League and Spanish LaLiga double, set to bolster the Real attack alongside superstars and 2024 Ballon d’Or candidates Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham.
