NWSL Week 8 Preview

Last week’s NWSL results shortened the gap among the top six teams. The Courage still lead the league, but 6th place FC Kansas City is only four points back. The statement result from week seven was Chicago’s 3-2 victory over the NC Courage. The Red Stars have now won three of their last four and are up into second place in the table.

Meanwhile, the Washington Spirit continue to languish at the bottom of the table, after having made the 2016 NWSL Final. They’ve lost their last three games, and take on fellow bottom table side Houston Dash on Saturday.

NWSL Standings After Week 7:

North Carolina Courage: 15 points (+2 GD)

Chicago Red Stars: 13 (+3 GD)

Sky Blue FC: 13 (+1 GD)

Seattle Reign FC: 12 (+7 GD)

Portland Thorns FC: 12 (+4 GD)

FC Kansas City: 11 (+2 GD)

Boston Breakers: 8 (-1 GD)

Orlando Pride: 6 (-3 GD)

Houston Dash: 6 (-8 GD)

Washington Spirit: 4 (-7 GD)

Game of the Week:

While the league and Lifetime have picked up FCKC traveling to the Courage, the more intriguing match in week eight is Seattle at Chicago. Neither side has lost since week three. The Red Stars offense is finally beginning to appear to be the threat everyone expected at the start of the year. And while the Reign’s offense needs no assistance (league leading 17 goals), their defense just posted a first shut out of the year.

Here is a look at the full NWSL schedule and how you can catch each match.

Week 8 Schedule:

Saturday, June 3

FC Kansas City at North Carolina Courage, 3:30 pm ET, Lifetime TV

Houston Dash at Washington Spirit, 7:00 pm ET, go90

Portland Thorns FC at Sky Blue FC, 7:00 pm ET, go90

Boston Breakers at Orlando Price, 7:30pm ET, go90

Sunday, June 4

Seattle Reign at Chicago Red Stars, 3:00pm ET, go90

If Kansas City and Seattle can pull off road victories, we could see a NWSL table with the top six separated by just one or two points.
