The Premier League has taken the wise decision to follow the Bundesliga by allowing five substitutions per game and expanding the number of players on the bench from seven to nine. The league confirmed this temporary change on Thursday. Here's why this is a great thing.
For the remainder of the 2019/20 season, Premier League clubs will now be able to make substitutes instead of

The Pros Of More Substitutions
#1. The players returned to training last month. There's no way in hell that all of them will be back to full strength. Christian Pulisic’s TikTok training doesn’t make it seem like he'll be ready to return to a full 90 minutes at a high level.
#2. Players that don’t typically see the field as much could get their chance. It will be an all-hands-on-deck situation for clubs when play resumes. If all five substitutions are used, this brings the possibility of names we don’t usually hear getting their shot.
#3. The possibilities are endless. A team could change its entire midfield at halftime and present a whole different look to the opposition. Tactics could change, formations could be flipped and who knows what else.
#4. That beautiful board gets to be lifted high in the air even more. Those boards are anywhere between $500 to $1,000 of pure LED beauty. The fourth official will be needing to hit the gym because they'll have some major lifting to do.
The Premier League resumes on June 17. Fans and substitutes everywhere are counting down the days for the action to return.
