Man United Roll West Ham With Zlatan Ibrahimovic Scoring A Brace

It’s the EFL Cup so everything must be taken with a grain of salt, but Manchester United’s dominate victory over West Ham in the quarterfinals saw United resemble a waking giant. It must also be said that West Ham’s performance was totally in line with their 2016-17 season so far — disastrous.

With only two minutes gone, the Red Devils opened the scoring after a brilliant exchange between Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. With both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini suspended for the match, Mkhitaryan was handed a rare start and setup Ibrahimovic with a slick back heel.

Zlatan almost doubled United’s advantage but Adrian thwarted the Swede twice in quick succession.

Adrian once again kept West Ham in the match with a tremendous save on a wonderfully struck Rooney free kick.

With United clearly in the ascendency, West Ham found a fortunate equalizer after David De Gea was unable to corral a shot from Dimitri Payet. Ashley Fletcher was on hand to turn in the rebound.

With the scores level at the half, United quickly restored their advantage only three minutes after the restart through Anthony Martial.

In the 62nd minute, Martial scored his second and United’s third.

United were coasting to victory before Ibrahimovic grabbed his second and the Red Devil’s fourth.

Hull City, Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester United will now contest the semifinals of the EFL Cup.
