Liverpool And Real Madrid Fans Come Together To Fight Cancer

There's no denying that tensions are high heading into the Champions League final tomorrow in Kyiv, but Liverpool and Real Madrid fans are reminding us of how soccer can bring people together for good.

The CRIS Cancer Foundation filmed Liverpool and Real Madrid fans singing Liverpool's anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone."

It's a heartwarming video and powerful reminder that the passion of soccer fans can be harnessed to serve a greater good. The CRIS Cancer foundation is sharing the video to raise money for cancer research.

Players often make headlines for their charitable donations, but the narrative surrounding soccer fans is often one of violence instead of unity.

In the first leg of Liverpool's semifinal against Roma, Liverpool fan Sean Cox was assaulted by Roma fans outside of Anfield. Both clubs condemned the attack, but it represented another case of fans using a game as an excuse to behave like hooligans.

Liverpool and Real Madrid fans would do well to follow the lead of their teams' stars.

Mo Salah has generously given back to his home village Nagrig in Egypt, funding a water treatment plan and school renovations. Cristiano Ronaldo was named the most charitable sportsperson by Dosomething.org in 2015. He has donated to the Nepal earthquake recovery efforts, Make-A-Wish Foundation and a host of other causes.
