Cristiano Ronaldo Is A Major Doubt For Real Madrid’s Opening La Liga Fixtures

The injury that forced Cristiano Ronaldo to withdraw from the Euro 2016 final may cause him to miss Real Madrids opening La Liga match against Real Sociedad. With the game coming on the 21st of August, Ronaldo is a major doubt for Los Blancos.

Ronaldo has been given an extended break following his exertions in France, but the forward would’ve been unable to train with Real even if he’d wanted to. Ronaldo sprained his left knee in the final against France, and there’s no confirmed date for his return.

While Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Pepe are schedule to reunite with the squad in the coming days, Ronaldo’s status is anything but certain.

“Right now he still has his injury,” confirmed manager Zinedine Zidane. “Obviously he wants to be back but we need patience and for him to be calm. He will be back with us soon.”

Recent photographs show that Ronaldo is still wearing his knee brace, and it’s also clear that Ronaldo will need his own form of preseason before appearing for Real on the pitch.

Real Madrid play against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on August 9th, a fixture Ronaldo is certain to miss. Following that match, Ronaldo will have just over 10 days to be ready for the Real Sociedad encounter.

Real Madrid's second La Liga match is against Celta Vigo on Saturday, August 27th.
