18-year-old Alyssa Thompson scores memorable goal on NWSL debut

We already knew that Alyssa Thompson was special. The 18-year-old made history when Angel City, with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, made her the first-ever selection straight out of high school.

Then, back on March 9, she scored her first goal for the club in a friendly win over América — a remarkable dribble from the center circle that left four defenders and the goalkeeper in her wake.

On Sunday, the rising USWNT star made her NWSL debut in Angel City's season opener against Gotham FC at BMO Stadium and needed only 11 minutes to register another worldie at the highest level.

After Trinity Rodman's incredible display for the Washington Spirit earlier in the day and a goalscoring start for reigning MVP Sophia Smith, it's clear that the league has no shortage of prodigious talent.

But Midge Purce brought the visitors level from the spot, and then Lynn Williams made it 2-1 to Gotham in the 64th. The established stars aren't going anywhere either.
