Liga MX Femenil Match Between Tigres And Chivas Produces 3 Outrageous Goals

The final round of the 2021 Liga MX Femenil regular season concluded on Monday with a marquee match between Chivas and Tigres at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara.

Tigres entered top of the table, but a Chivas win would see las Rojiblancas take the No. 1 overall seed heading into the playoffs. This one more than lived up to the hype with three goals that you have to see.

Belen Cruz opened the scoring for Tigres in the 13th minute by following up on a rebound. 21-year-old Lizbeth Ovalle then made it 2-0 in the 16th with the first screamer of the match.

Two quickly became three in the 19th minute following a Stephany Mayor header for Tigres, but Chivas wasn’t ready to fold just yet. In the 24th minute, Alicia Cervantes pulled one back for the home side with a remarkable lob from distance.

Damaris Godinez then added another for Chivas in the 52nd minute after Tigres’ keeper fumbled a cross to make it 3-2. But any hope of a Guadalajara comeback was brutally extinguished by Mayor in the 72nd. The 29-year-old Mexico international made no mistake from just inside the halfway line following a poor pass by the Chivas keeper.

Josefine Montoya pulled one back for Guadalajara with eight minutes remaining, but the match would finish 4-3 in favor of Tigres.

Tigres won the 2020 Guardianes tournament, and they’ll again be favorites when the liguilla starts on May 5-6 with the first legs of the quarterfinals. Tigres plays América, while Chivas faces off against Toluca. The other quarterfinals are Monterrey vs. Pumas and Atlas vs. Pachuca.
