Watch: FOX embarrassingly mistakes Mallory Swanson with Sophia Smith on live TV broadcast

FOX has done it again, folks.

The U.S. women’s national team claimed gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics final against Brazil on Saturday, with forward Mallory Swanson scoring the only goal in the USWNT’s historic victory.

On the same day, Dansby Swanson — husband of Mallory and MLB shortstop for the Chicago Cubs — recorded his 1,000th career hit, putting the cherry on top to an amazing day for the Swanson’s.

FOX Sports, in their effort to highlight the outstanding achievements of the couple over the weekend, showcased each of the player’s milestones in a graphic during the Cubs' match against the Chicago White Socks, naming the pair the “Golden Power Couple."

The promblem? You might ask. Well, they didn’t exactly know how Mallory Swanson looked like.

"Smith, Swanson... tomato, tomato" - FOX Sports (probably).

FOX embarrassingly placed a picture of USWNT striker Sophia Smith over the name of Mallory Swanson, creating what will perhaps be one of the most hilarious out-of-context moments of the USWNT’s memorable summer.

USWNT fans were quick to call out the mistake on social media.

Others, unfamiliar with either of the women players’ appearance, took a minute or two to figure out what was wrong with the graphic.

FOX, as expected, would go on to fix their mistake and re-show the graphic with the correct photo minutes later, hilariously tweaking the USWNT attacker’s name to “The Real” Mallory Swanson. They jokingly put the blame on A.J. Pierzynski.

A funny moment to end the USWNT’s and Mallory Swanson’s fantastic summer in Paris.
