Frida Maanum scores insane goal in upper-90 to help send Arsenal to Champions League semis

Arsenal defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium Wednesday to win 2-1 on aggregate in the Women’s Champions League quarterfinal.

The Gunners overcame a 1-0 first-leg deficit to reach the UWCL semifinals for the first time since 2013.

An out of this world goal from Norwegian midfielder Frida Maanum in the 19th minute sparked the comeback.

Arsenal put together a quick succession of passes after regaining possession outside of Bayern’s box to set up Maanum. The 23-year-old took the shot first time and placed it into the top corner like an arrow.

That backheel assist from Leah Williamson was a beauty.

This was Maanum’s fifth goal in the Champions League this season. She’s got six in the Women’s Super League.

Arsenal kept up the tempo and took the lead on aggregate in the 26th minute with a Stina Blackstenius header from close range. The record crowd of 21,307 were loving it.

Bayern couldn’t find a way back into the game and limited to just four shots at the Emirates Stadium. For comparison, the German side recorded 16 in their 1-0 victory last week.

Arsenal will advance to the club’s first semifinal in a decade and face the winner of Paris Saint-Germain and Wolfsburg. PSG lost the first leg at home to Wolfsburg 1-0 and now face a trip to Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena on Thursday.
