"No Messi, No Party" — Joe Biden, probably.
Lionel Messi broke headlines on Saturday morning after it was revealed that the Inter Miami star was to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden at the White House along with 18 other recipients, becoming only the second-ever soccer player to receive the award.

The prestigious award, which honors individuals who have made significant contributions to American society, was set to recognize Messi's legendary career and his cultural impact worldwide with the White House saying he is "the most decorated player in the history of professional soccer. He supports healthcare and education programs for children around the world through the Leo Messi Foundation and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador."
However, at the time of the ceremony, Messi was not present, with the absence of the soccer superstar leaving many fans and pundits puzzled.

While some social media users expressed disappointment, others speculated about the reasons behind Messi’s no-show. Some pointed to the demanding nature of his professional schedule, with Messi perhaps prioritizing his time away from the spotlight back in Argentina. Others suggested that Messi, known for his reserved and private nature, might have simply preferred to keep a low profile and avoid the political spotlight.
Messi's absence, as expected, quickly trended on X (Twitter) with fans and media outlets debating whether Messi’s absence was disrespectful or merely a result of unavoidable circumstances. Many pointed out that Messi had previously received several high-profile honors, including the FIFA World Cup and Ballon d'Or awards, and had often kept his distance from public ceremonies, further fueling the notion that he might not be the type to embrace the political limelight.
What priority? I love Messi but can't defend that. Very disrespectful.

Lionel Messi's reason of absence was said to be due to a scheduling conflict, with the Inter Miami captain having a prior commitment.
"It's a great honor to receive this recognition. I'm truly grateful for it. Unfortunately, I had a prior commitment — as I have not been able to attend the ceremony at the White House on Jan. 4" said Messi.
"I deeply appreciate this gesture and I would be open to meeting to receive the award at another time when I'm back in the United States" he added.
