Sam Mewis To Join Man City Women’s Team With Rose Lavelle Considering

The NWSL Challenge Cup is coming to a close with the final set between the Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, July 26 at 12:30 p.m. EST, which raises the question: What next for NWSL players?

The NWSL board is in discussion as to whether or not more games will be added to the 2020 season.

Players, and fans of course, are anxious to find out the board’s decision. The waiting game is brutal and many players want a concrete answer so they can make plans.

USWNT player Sam Mewis is said to have signed with the Manchester City women’s team. International teammate Rose Lavelle is also reportedly considering signing with Man City. As both players' teams have been knocked out of the Challenge Cup, they are able to travel abroad immediately.

Does this mean that NWSL players' best chance to play is to go overseas? That’s not a bad gig. Getting more touches on the ball is always a plus, and exposure to different styles of coaching and play can enhance a player's game.

And being in a safer environment away from the COVID-19 disaster zone is certainly a good incentive. It’s a win-win situation.
