Bicycle Kick Gone Wrong Ends With Kick To The Head And Red Card

For some reason, kicks to the head are becoming increasingly popular in Liga MX. More specifically, Club America players seem to have taken a liking for kicking opponents' heads in diverse circumstances.

Remember Guido Rodríguez kicking Rubens Sambueza's face a few months ago? Well, now it was his teammate Mateus Uribe who, in a desperate attempt to score against Pumas instead brutally kicked Chilean striker Nico Castillo in the head and was therefore sent off in the 88th minute.

The referee's decision sparked controversy as many argue although imprudent, Mateus Uribe did not deserve to see the red card after his failed bicycle kick.

Although the play did not directly affect the score, Miguel Herrera was enraged by the ref's call.

Club America has officially issued a statement of disagreement to the Disciplinary Commission in the hope of leaving the red card without effect for the next match.

In a match that ended scoreless, Pumas UNAM hosted arch rivals Club America. Even when both teams had several clear scoring chances, the goalkeepers and the posts prevented the ball from finding the back of the net.

Pumas' Nico Castillo, who almost got his head chopped off by Mateus Uribe, had a couple of the game's most dangerous chances but was unlucky.

On the other hand, Cecilio Domínguez created the most danger for Club América but was unable to make an impact on the score. Watch the full-time highlights below.

This weekend there were four goalless matches in Liga MX. Even when not all were boring matches, it is definitely expected that the tournament delivers more entertaining clashes.

Do you think Mateus Uribe deserved the red card or not?
