Inter Miami break single-season points record and become the 'best team in MLS history'

Inter Miami are officially the best team in MLS Regular Season history.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami defeated the New England Revolution at home to break the record of the most single-season points in MLS history.

Inter Miami break MLS single-season points record

A euphoric 6-2 comeback victory, topped off by an incredible Messi brace, turned out enough for the men led by Gerardo Martino to attain the record, coincidentally breaking the mark set by the Revolution during the 2021 season.

The Herons’ 74 points in the current 2024 MLS Season surpassed the New England Revolution’s 73-point season achieved in 2021.

This marks as yet another milestone for Messi and co. this season, with Miami doubling-down on their historic 2024 Supporters’ Shield (the first in club history) earlier this month.

The club will now also be aiming to win their first-ever MLS Cup in November after missing out on the 2023 MLS Playoffs last season.

The goals scored by Luis Suárez (double) before the half and Benjamin Cremaschi at the restart, put the game back into Miami’s hands after taking on an early 2-0 deficit.

Messi incredible goal, hat trick vs. New England Revolution

Messi, who came on until the 57th minute, scored a fantastic goal to secure the home win and to increase his fantastic goal contribution tally since coming back from the injury suffered at the Copa America. What a goal.

The Argentine, however, was not complacent and put the cherry-on-top with yet another slick, grounded finish for the fifth goal of the night in Fort Lauderdale.

...but that was still not enough for the 8-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Messi, after scoring an incredible hat-trick for Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers earlier this week, scored yet another to secure back-to-back hat-tricks for club and country.

He's going to be a problem in the MLS Playoffs.
