Mbappé breaks PSG’s scoring record while Messi scores 799th career goal in win vs. Nantes

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé both got on the scoresheet Saturday for Paris Saint-Germain as the Ligue 1 leaders defeated Nantes 4-2. Mbappé sealed the victory in the 92nd minute to give PSG a two-goal advantage and make himself the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.

At just 24 years old the Frenchman has scored 201 goals for PSG passing Edinson Cavani’s previous record.

Messi is also approaching a major landmark. The Argentine opened the scoring for PSG in the 12th minute for his 799th career goal for club and country.

Perhaps No. 800 will come against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. I know you guys will be naturally curious about how many goals Messi has compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi has scored 799 goals in 1,012 games while Ronaldo has recorded 827 goals in 1,152 matches.

Saturday's 4-2 score line doesn’t accurately reflect how close the match was. PSG took an early 2-0 lead, however Nantes responded with goals in the 31st and 38th minutes to tie the game.

PSG would regain the lead in the 60th minute with Mbappé assisting Danilo Pereira who fired his team back in front.

PSG now holds an 11-point lead in the Ligue 1 table over Marseille, but all eyes will be on overturning the 1-0 aggregate deficit vs. Bayern on Wednesday.
