Injured player ON THE GROUND scores craziest own goal ever in Canadian Championship

One of the wildest own goals we’ve ever seen happened during a Canadian Championship game on Tuesday when the ball deflected off an injured player on the ground and into the goal.

Cavalry FC were hosting Vancouver FC in the Canadian Championship quarterfinals and equalized to make it 1-1 in the 66th minute. The hosts had a corner kick and during the set piece Vancouver’s Aidan O’Connor went down injured just outside of his team’s goal.

The ball was cleared outside the box where Cavalry forward Mihail Gherasimencov fired a shot that looked to be going wide of the goal. Unfortunately for O’Connor, the ball was like a magnet straight toward him.

What happened next you need to see to believe.

We’re not sure if we’ve ever seen an own goal like that before. What are the chances of that happening??

O’Connor would make up for the nightmare own goal as the game went to a penalty shootout and the 23-year-old center back converted his kick. Vancouver won the shootout 5-4.
