The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States, is embracing a bold and entertainment-driven approach with unique elements inspired by the NBA. 

Players and managers will be interviewed live during halftime of matches, a first for a FIFA-sanctioned tournament.

Major League Soccer put its foot down and showed that no one is above the rules as Lionel Messi and superstar teammate Luis Suárez were both hit with fines after week 1 of the new season.

The attacking pair were fined an undisclosed amount for violating the league’s “hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent” rule.

Brazilian forward Neymar said reuniting with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami is an interesting prospect and did not rule out a move to the United States as his Al-Hilal contract winds down.

Once one of football's most feared forwards, Neymar struck up a lethal partnership with Messi and Suarez to lead Barcelona to a historic treble before his record-breaking $230.39 million move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Inter Miami's dominant regular season could conclude with the league points record when they host the New England Revolution on Saturday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Miami (21-8-4, 71 points) already clinched the Supporters' Shield and will carry home-field advantage throughout the MLS Cup playoffs. A victory on Saturday would give the Herons the most single-season points in MLS history, breaking the mark of 73 set by the Revolution during the 2021 season.

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez announced his international retirement on Monday, ending a 17-year career with his national team as their top scorer with 69 goals.

The 37-year-old, who has 142 caps for his country, made his international debut in 2007 and was key in the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup and won the Copa America a year later.

"Friday will be my last match with my country's national team," an emotional Suarez told a press conference.

Luis Suarez's header in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time lifted Inter Miami to a 2-2 draw with host Nashville SC on Thursday in the first leg of CONCACAF Champions Cup round-of-16 series.

Jacob Shaffelburg scored twice for Nashville, while Lionel Messi delivered a goal for Miami.

The two-match, total-goal series will conclude Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The winner will advance to oppose either Monterrey or FC Cincinnati in the quarterfinals.

Inter Miami produced a result many fans have come to expect given their star power as the Herons cruised to a 5-0 victory at DRV PNK stadium vs. rival Orlando City. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez both scored braces.

The expectations for Suárez are high after scoring 26 goals and adding 17 assists last season for Gremio in Brazil. He’d been receiving criticism lately for his slow mobility and lack of goals since joining Miami.
