United States men’s national team and Celtic center back Cameron Carter-Vickers put on a fantastic audition for playing as a forward on Saturday with a sensational long distance goal vs. Kilmarnock.

In the 21st minute the American defender unleashed a fierce strike from distance that nobody saw coming. Carter-Vickers found himself in a pocket of space and decided to try a shot. And what a shot it was.

Celtic defeated Rangers on penalties in the Scottish League Cup on Sunday and can thank United States men’s national team defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Carter-Vickers, who will turn 27 on New Year’s Eve, has had his ups and downs this season. On Sunday he had one of his highlights of the season as he somehow stopped a Rangers counterattack despite being outnumbered four-to-one.

Fans wondering how many Americans play in Champions League action this season will be pleased to know that nine USMNT players will compete in the competition.

The Champions League draw took place on Thursday and now we know who all the Americans will be facing in the group stage. 

Joe Hart has been heavily criticized by soccer fans on social media who accuse the goalkeeper of faking an injury in Saturday’s Scottish Premiership league clash between Celtic and Motherwell.

The ‘injury’ in question? Classless, to say the least.

Faking an injury to avoid conceding a goal?

The former England international (who now plays for Celtic, if you didn’t know) went down on the floor after an apparent head injury when the game was tied 1-1.

Real Madrid started its Champions League title defense Tuesday with a bittersweet 3-0 victory over Celtic in Scotland. Bitter because Karim Benzema suffered a worrisome knee injury, sweet because Eden Hazard showed up to become the night's unexpected hero, providing an assist and scoring a goal. 

The trip to Glasgow didn't start well for Real Madrid. The Bhoys put on a good performance in front of their fans and were close to upsetting the champions on a couple occasions.

The largest club competition in the world returns on Tuesday. Following the draw on Aug. 25, the Champions League groups have been made and play will begin on Sept. 6 when both games in Group G kick off.
