For three years now Newcastle United supporters have been somewhat patiently waiting for local lad Adam Armstrong to be given a chance in the first team. The 19-year-old striker was dominant on loan at Coventry City in League One last year, scoring 20 goals in 40 matches.
This season, Newcastle have loaned him to Barnsley, a side in the Championship — the same division as themselves. Armstrong has scored two goals in six appearances for the South Yorkshire club, but his debut goal was the finest of his professional career to date.
Making his debut against Preston North End off the bench, Armstrong scored this sensational goal after utterly destroying his marker. It’s an unstoppable piece of genius that takes only two touches to complete.
The goal earned him September’s Championship Goal of the Month honors and also played a part in Armstrong receiving a call-up for England’s U-20 side. Armstrong scored against the Netherlands, only adding more fuel to the ‘next Alan Shearer’ hype.
