Watch USWNT players get teary-eyed after reading letters from their families

Shortly before the USWNT debuts at the 2023 World Cup against Vietnam, the NWSL published a series of clips in which national players read send-off letters from their families.

And, as you can imagine, things got weepy.

USWNT players get emotional

The letters were written by parents, siblings and partners of the players, sharing stories of their sacrifices, expressing their unconditional love, support and — of course — wishing them the World Cup title.

At the beginning of the video, Julie Ertz asks the producers what percentage of players have cried while reading the letters, only to then recognize that "I'm always the crier."

And guess what? In the end, she needed a tissue.

Savannah de Melo, Alyssa Thompson and Rose Lavelle were very emotional, too, while the reaction of Sophia Smith to the letter from Michael, her boyfriend, is pretty wholesome.

The USWNT will match up against Vietnam on Friday, July 2 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
