France legend Thierry Henry the latest name associated with USMNT head coach job

A new contender has entered the United States men’s national team head coach search ring! Yes, there are now Thierry Henry USMNT rumors being tossed onto the fire.

According to soccer journalist Fabrizio Romano the Arsenal legend is on the USMNT’s shortlist for replacing Gregg Berhalter.

Thierry Henry USMNT rumors

Henry is currently the head coach for France’s U23 team which will compete in the Paris Olympics this summer. It just so happens that France’s opening game in the Olympics will be against the United States.

After the Summer Games it could be possible for Henry to then join the USMNT. He’s not the only head coach at the Olympics who has been linked to the U.S. job. Herve Renard will lead the France women’s team in search for gold.

Both French head coaches are on the USMNT’s radar.

As for Henry he’s the latest big figure to be associated with the USA’s vacant head coach position. The 46-year-old has been coaching for nearly a decade with two stints as an assistant coach for Belgium, working with France’s youth national team, one season in MLS with Montreal and a short time with Ligue 1’s Monaco.

His time at Monaco during the 2018-19 season was disastrous as he was fired after 20 games and recorded just four wins and five draws.

The season at Montreal was average as his side finished ninth in the league with a record of eight wins, two draws and 13 losses.

How his team performs in the Games should give a good indication on if he’s ready to coach a senior national team. His side for the Olympics is loaded with young French talents and are favorites to win gold.
