USMNT still ranked top 15 in the world despite loss to Trinidad and Tobago

If you’ve kept up with The18 over the past couple years, then you know we love to poke fun at FIFA’s ridiculous world rankings. The latest FIFA rankings put the United States men’s national team at No. 12 in the world.

Latest FIFA rankings

The USMNT’s latest international window was an ugly one which saw Gregg Berhalter’s side defeat Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 at home in Austin, Texas, but then lose the second leg 2-1 in the Port of Spain.

To give you a better idea of how poor that result looks on the USMNT’s resume, Trinidad and Tobago are ranked 96th in the world (and were ranked 99 at the time of the game).

The last time the USMNT lost to an opponent ranked that low was six years ago… against Trinidad and Tobago.

FIFA did drop the USMNT one spot in the rankings. Uruguay jumped the Americans to take the No. 11 spot which the USMNT had held for the majority of 2023.

Ironically Germany sit lower in the rankings at No. 16 despite beating the USMNT 3-1 back in October.

Never change, FIFA rankings.
