Here goes another bold statement by Donovan…

U.S. men’s national team legend Landon Donovan has boldly predicted that Inter Miami will emerge victorious in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to be held in the United States for the first time ever.

Landon Donovan says Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will win 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Speaking during a recent interview for DAZN, Donovan revealed that he believes Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will be lifting the new trophy this summer, this even when the Major League Soccer club will be facing the world’s best. And if they don't... well, just forget he ever said anything.

The 2025 edition marks the debut of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup format, featuring 32 teams from across the world in a month-long summer tournament.

Modeled after the FIFA World Cup, the revamped competition includes a group stage followed by knockout rounds and will be held every four years. The tournament is designed to crown the best club team in the world while increasing global visibility for clubs outside traditional powerhouses in Europe and South America.

Inter Miami ‘qualified’ for the tournament by winning the 2024 Supporters Shield, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirming the Fort Lauderdale club’s spot in the inaugural tournament as the host nation’s representative. They will be one of two MLS clubs in the tournament, with Seattle Sounders also making an appearance.

In the group stage, Inter Miami is set to face FC Porto (Portugal) and Palmeiras (Brazil), with the club playing the inaugural match at the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium on June 14 against Al Ahly (Egypt).
