Bayern Manager Nagelsmann Says He And His Mother Received Over 450 Death Threats After UCL Loss

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann opened up at a press conference on Friday about the hatred and threats he received after his side fell to underdog Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Nagelsmann death threats on social media are abhorrent and the evil “fans” leaving these comments went as far as threatening his mother.

Nagelsmann said the threats certainly don’t make his job and life easy.

“I can handle the criticism, but with 450 death threats on Instagram, it’s not so easy,” Nagelsmann said.

“If people want to kill me that’s one thing, but to go after my mother, who has nothing to do with football or our (Champions League) exit is wild.”

Despite the horrific comments, the 34-year-old manager still managed to be slightly humorous about the situation, noting that the number of death threats he receives sometimes depends on the formation he chooses.

“I could report it, but I would never be finished. I get them (death threats) after every game whether we win or lose. Generally, I get more when we play with a back three rather than a back four,” Nagelsmann said.

“I don’t give a shit. People can write whatever they want, but I don’t understand it. As soon as people turn the TV off, they forget any manner of decency and go crazy. Talking about it won’t change anything. They think they’re right, that’s the absurd thing.”

The crazy thing is that Nagelsmann is on pace to lead Bayern Munich to its 10th straight Bundesliga title, and he will still receive these threats. Bayern has a nine-point cushion on second-place Borussia Dortmund with seven games left in the season.
