Club America Dominates Montreal Impact In CONCACAF Champions League Final

Club America and Liga MX are officially the kings of CONCACAF after they thoroughly beat the MLS’ Montreal Impact 4-2 in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final. The game was not as close as the score line would indicate. After Montreal’s Andres Romero opened the scoring with a great goal produced from a charmed run through America’s box, Club America’s Dario Benedetto announced his presence with a glorious scissor kick to equalize the score. It was a show of class that set the tone for the rest of the game, and once Oribe Peralta gave America the lead, the Mexican side never looked back.

Benedetto would go on to produce a Man of the Match performance, putting on a finishing clinic as he scored a flying toe poke finish and a beautiful curled strike to add to his already stunning equalizer. Benedetto’s performance was the manifestation of the gulf in class between the two sides. Montreal’s Jack McInerney’s late finish to make it 2-4 was as superfluous a goal as one could imagine.

The aggregate score across both legs was 5-3 in favor of America, with the clubs drawing 1-1 in the first leg.

The win gives Club America its second trophy in the past year, as they won the 2014 Liga MX Apertura. With the 2015 Clausura Liguilla about to start, America could be in the running to record a historic trophy haul in 2014/15.
