Christian Pulisic misses out on big chance vs. PSG as Milan’s UCL hopes start to wane

Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and AC Milan’s 2023-24 UEFA Champions League campaign has failed to get off the runway. The Italian side was held scoreless again on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes as PSG went top of the group with a 3-0 victory.

Pulisic was arguably one of Milan’s brightest sparks in attack, however his performance will mostly be remembered for a big chance missed in the second half.

Pulisic vs PSG

A long ball over the top from goalkeeper Mike Maignan found Pulisic in behind the PSG defense. Rather than attempting a shot, Pulisic tried to find Olivier Giroud with a pass, and it wasn’t the correct choice.

The angle was too tight for Giroud and Milan’s best chance of the night was wasted.

Pulisic will want that one back. Other than the missed chance Pulisic was Milan’s highest rated player according to FotMob as he played the full 90 minutes, created three chances, succeeded on all three of his dribbles and had a shot on target.

Musah had a decent outing as he started in the midfield for Milan and played for 77 minutes. He finished as Milan's fourth highest rated player.

While Milan’s offense sputtered the PSG attack was ruthless.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a dazzling display of footwork and a clinical finish.

The Milan defense fell asleep in the 53rd minute as Randal Kolo Muani pounced on a rebound to double the lead.

PSG continued to have the better chances and finally made it three goals for the French club in the final minutes with South Korean youngster Lee Kang-in scoring.

The loss sees Milan drop to bottom of Group F with two points from three games and no goals scored. Only one other team, Benfica, has failed to score in the Champions League this season.

Milan aren’t completely out of the race. With three games still to go they sit just two points behind Dortmund and Newcastle who are both tied on four points.

PSG sit top of the table with six.

Milan’s next Champions League game will be hosting PSG at San Siro on Nov. 7.
