Chivas Eliminate Pumas With Fernando Beltrán Wonder Goal Before Piling It On Late

Chivas is through to the quarterfinals of the Liga MX Clausura playoffs after eliminating Pumas 4-1 on Sunday night in Guadalajara, marking the end of a miserable week for the visitors that included defeat to the Seattle Sounders in the Concacaf Champions League final.

The score was level at 1-1 at Estadio Akron until the 51st minute, when Chivas midfielder Fernando Beltrán, celebrating his 24th birthday, scored a sensational match-winner after exchanging passes with Pavel Pérez and then Alexis Vega to dissect the Pumas defense before tucking a finish inside Alfredo Talavera's far post.

Here's another angle of Dr. Beltrán's procedure. This man put Pumas under the knife.

Cristian Calderón had given Chivas the lead in the 12th minute after getting in front of Santiago Trigos and toe poking beyond Talavera.

Seven minutes later, Pumas responded with a similar goal but Brazilian Diogo de Olivera provided the finish.

José Juan Macias made it 3-1 in the 87th minute and Vega added Chivas' fourth in the 89th.

Chivas plays Atlas in the quarterfinals. The other matchups are América vs. Puebla, Pachuca vs. Atlético San Luis and Tigres vs. Cruz Azul.
