Awesome Chicharito-Efrain Alvarez Link-Up Not Enough To Prevent Galaxy From Missing Playoffs

Raul Ruidiaz scored in second-half stoppage time as the Seattle Sounders rallied for a 1-1 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night in Carson, Calif.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored the lone goal for the Galaxy (6-11-4, 22 points, 1.05 points per game), who were eliminated from contention for the Major League Soccer playoffs when the San Jose Earthquakes beat Los Angeles FC 3-2 on Wednesday.

All MLS teams have one regular-season game remaining.

Ruidiaz's 12-yard shot in the third of four minutes of stoppage time went off the arm of Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham and just inside the right post. Jordan Morris and Joao Paulo were credited with assists.

The Sounders (10-5-6, 36 points, 1.71 points per game) missed an opportunity to move back atop the Western Conference, which they would've achieved with a victory.

Hernandez, the Galaxy's big offseason acquisition, had missed the previous three matches with a hamstring injury. He came on as a substitute in the 69th minute.

The 32-year-old flashed the form that has made him the leading career scorer for the Mexican national team and led him to play for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester United of the English Premier League.

On the goal, Hernandez was surrounded by a pair of Seattle defenders about 25 yards out. He made a pass through Paulo's legs to teammate Efrain Alvarez, who returned the ball to Hernandez on the right wing. Hernandez drove to the top of the 6-yard box before putting a low shot past hard-charging goalie Stefan Frei and into the side netting inside the far post.

Bingham and Frei both made two saves.

The Galaxy nearly scored twice in the first half.

Frei mishandled a corner kick in the 15th minute and the ball fell to Los Angeles' Sebastian Lletget, who sent a sidewinding cross to Daniel Steres for a header from 10 yards out. Seattle's Alex Roldan made a diving header to knock the ball off the crossbar, and it was then cleared off the goal line by Ethan Dobbelaere, a 17-year-old midfielder making his first MLS appearance.

In the 26th minute, Frei was able to deflect a low, 10-yard shot by Ethan Zubak off the left post.
