Carlos Vela's Two Assists This Weekend Could Be A Good Sign

Carlos Vela's Real Sociedad season started slowly, but it seems to have picked up.

The 26-year-old Mexico international is Sociedad's third-leading scorer in La Liga with four goals. He also has three assist in the league.

Those don't look like super-impressive numbers, but the upshot is most of those stats have come in 2016. Vela scored and assisted in Sociedad's away win at Espanyol Feb. 8 and scored in a 5-1 loss to Sporting Jan. 22.

This past weekend, he got a Valentine's Day assist double in a 3-0 win against Granada, assisting Jonathas and Mikel Oyarzabal for the second and third goals, respectively.

His assist to Jonathas was particularly excellent, a perfectly weighted ball.

Not that his assist to Oyarzabal was a garbage can either.

The question remains if Vela can keep this up. Time will tell, but if he does keep it up he could find himself with pole position in the race to find a strike partner for Chicharito on the Mexico National Team. Raul Jimenez has also looked good of late for Benfica and Oribe Peralta continues to do what he does for Club America, but it's pretty much a consensus that Vela has more natural talent than those two.

All he needs is results now.
