On Tuesday, Nov. 2, the latest club-focused soccer documentary lands on Amazon Prime Video: FC Bayern — Behind the Legend.
All six episodes will be available for streaming that day, and we really have high hopes for this one given the period in which it was filmed.

Things basically start at the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign, after Hansi Flick led Bayern to a historic treble during a campaign that was halted by the pandemic. For the 2020-21 season, Bayern still has to navigate the new reality enforced by Covid-19 while also trying to repeat last season’s success. For the first time ever, the boardroom scenes might be really entertaining.
Other things to look forward to include Bayern’s appearances at the FIFA Club World Cup (where they played Tigres in the final), that wild Champions League quarterfinal against PSG and the eventual replacement of Flick with Julian Nagelsmann.
“We’re very pleased the launch of FC Bayern — Behind the Legend is getting closer,” Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn said. “In this documentary, our fans will experience the club closer than ever before: how it works, how FC Bayern ticks, with all its characteristics and facets. It’s an in-depth series for our supporters all over the world, which will certainly also be of interest to football fans not associated with our club.”
According to Amazon, the final cut is drawn from “over 2,000 hours of raw and archive material after hundreds of days of shooting at over 25 different locations and more than 145 interviews.”
This isn’t Amazon Prime Video’s first dalliance into the world of football. In 2018, All or Nothing: Manchester City offered a tantalizing view of the methods of Pep Guardiola and the global superstars at the club, while also offering an insightful look at club employees that are often overlooked.
In 2020, All or Nothing: Brazil National Team followed the Seleção through its triumphant 2019 Copa América campaign. This, in my opinion, is by far and away Amazon’s best offering. That was followed by All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, which featured a couple memorable José Mourinho moments but was pretty much forgettable outside of that.
Part of the thrill of the Brazil documentary was looking at the inner workings of one of the most legendary national teams on the planet, and it’ll be fun to see a pretty fair correlation on the club side.
