El Farolito were the darlings of last year’s Open Cup as the National Premier Soccer League club (fourth tier) pulled off two stunning upsets in the competition. In 2025 they’re back to their old tricks.
The team are nicknamed the “Burrito Boys” with the name "El Farolito" coming from the late owner Salvador Lopez's chain of restaurants.
On Wednesday they faced MLS Next Pro (third tier) outfit Real Monarchs in the first round of the competition. To the delight of their one supporter in the stands, they took the lead in the 17th minute.
The game would go into extra time after being tied 1-1 after 90 minutes. El Farolito scored twice in extra time to once again advance in the U.S. Open Cup.
