Ronaldinho scored his last goal for Barcelona 15 years ago and boy was it a beauty

Ronaldinho’s last Barcelona goal was scored against Atlético Madrid on March 1, 2008. At the time of writing, that moment took place 15 years ago. How time flies.

Ronaldinho’s final goal for la Blaugrana is the legacy of that game, however on the day it was a triumphant 4-2 victory for Atlético Madrid.

Ronnie scored the opening goal in the 29th minute with a spectacular bicycle kick. The assist from Xavi wasn’t too shabby either.

Looking at the starting lineups for these teams is a wild blast from the past. Lionel Messi was left on the bench in favor of a front three that consisted of Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’o. Talk about fire power.

Messi was brought on in the 57th minute to replace Henry.

Despite the elite attack of Barcelona, it was a young Serigo Agüero who stole the show by being involved in all four of Atlético’s goals.

Agüero equalized for Atlético six minutes after Ronaldinho’s bicycle kick when his shot took a wicked deflection off Carlos Puyol.

Atlético would score three more goals with Agüero assisting Maxi Rodríguez just before halftime. In the second half Agüero drew a penalty that Diego Forlán scored and then Agüero secured a brace in the 70th minute.

You can’t help but get nostalgic looking at all those old faces on the field. Raúl García and Messi are the only two players who featured in that game and still play professionally in 2023.

Ronaldinho’s farewell was one of the few highlights for Barcelona that season as the Catalan club went trophyless and finished third in LaLiga. Ronaldinho only had nine goals that season while Henry lead the team with 19. Eto’o (18) and Messi (16) weren’t too far behind the Frenchman who had transferred from Arsenal that season.
