Kai McKenzie Lyle is an 18-year-old goalie who plays for Barnet in England's League 2. He made his international debut Saturday for Guyana against Suriname. He scored.
Although Guyana lost that match 3-2 and their other match of the international break 4-2 to Jamaica, knocking them out of the Carribbean Cup, what a moment!
Here's McKenzie-Lyle describing the moment on Barnet's website:
"When I first ran up for the free kick I noticed I was maybe a foot taller than all of the other players.
"The guy who took the free-kick told me he would aim for me and I said I would get my head on it. I did that and it went over the keeper and bounced in!
"It took a couple of seconds to realise I had scored but my immediate thought was I had to spin back and get back in goal to start again and look for the equaliser."
Epic.
The story leading to the goal might be even more insane than the goal itself. McKenzie-Lyle, you see, didn't even know he was eligible for Guyana, and Guyana didn't know either, until a researcher from Football Manager informed a Guyana scout of this fact.
Video games bring people together. This is a fact.
