USYNT And Texas Standout Lexi Missimo Ranked Among Top 5 Phenoms In Women's Game

After a historic freshman season at the University of Texas and a standout performance at the recent Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship, the personal accolades are starting to roll in for 19-year-old Lexi Missimo.

On Tuesday, Missimo was included in GOAL's 2022 NXGN global list of the top 20 phenoms in the women's game. The Southlake, Texas, native was the only American included and finished fourth with 18-year-old Reims and Haiti international Melchie Dumornay taking the top spot.

Texas landed Missimo as Top Drawer Soccer's No. 1 national recruit in 2020, and her first full collegiate season ended with 22 starts, nine goals, a Texas freshman record 14 assists, as well as a place on the Big 12 Conference First Team and a Conference Freshman of the Year award.

Missimo was then called up to the U.S. U-20 squad for the women's championship in the Dominican Republic, where she scored three goals and was named to the tournament's Best XI. The U.S. defeated Mexico 2-0 in the final to confirm its place at the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, where Missimo will be a player to watch.

She's reportedly had contact with Manchester City and Arsenal, but there are no current plans to leave Texas early. Missimo has already signed an NIL deal with Octagon, a talent and marketing agency, and a multiyear partnership with Veterans Lab Services, an industry leader in medial services and digital forensics.
