USWNT Players Fight For Playoff Spots

The National Women’s Soccer League is reaching its last month of the season where competition escalates to a higher level as the teams compete for four playoff spots. Yes, you heard correctly, there are only 4 playoff spots! This makes the last games of the season much more competitive - especially considering there are three teams right now fighting for the last two spots.

The Seattle Reign and FC Kansas City are the top two teams in the league and have pretty much sealed their playoff spots. But the last three teams fighting for playoff contention are the Washington Spirit, Portland Thorns FC, and the Chicago Red Stars. (We spoke earlier this summer to Portland Thorns defender Nikki Marshall, and clearly she is going to want to use her famous “bump n’ run” technique to lead her team back to the playoffs.)

On the teams fighting for the playoffs are US Women’s National Team players. So, if you are also looking to check up on how these players are playing before the start of the FIFA Women's World Cup next summer, look out for Shannon Boxx (Chicago Red Stars), Sydney Leroux (Seattle Reign FC), Allie Long (Portland Thorns), and Alex Morgan (Portland Thorns).

This weekend you can catch most of the games live on the National Women’s Soccer League YouTube channel or catch the big game between the Portland Thorns and the Houston Dash on ESPN 2 on Sunday at 10 pm EST.
