This season’s Premier League has been very interesting to say the least.
Liverpool and Manchester City have been battling it out for the title after Chelsea and Tottenham began dropping points. Liverpool put itself in a great position to go clear at the top only after a difficult run of games saw City catch up and retake the top spot. There has been talk among football fans and pundits alike that if Liverpool and Manchester City are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored on the final day. The two teams will have to play a Premier League title playoff.
Manchester City hasn’t reached the same heights it did last season, but nonetheless has responded well in its title defense. City sits one point ahead of Liverpool in the table with two games to go. Neither side can afford to drop points. City has to play Leicester at home and Brighton away, while Liverpool will play Newcastle away and Wolves at home.
Hypothetical scenario for a premier league playoff:-
Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool
City 0-1 Leicester Liverpool 6-1 Wolves Brighton 0-2 City games can be swapped before anyone kicks off!

When the dust finally settles on the last matchday, what would happen if Manchester City and Liverpool ended up tied on points, goal differential and goals scored? Well, the Premier League rules state, "(If the league) cannot be determined because two or more clubs are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored, the clubs concerned shall play off one or more deciding league matches on neutral grounds, the format, timing and venue of which shall be determined by the Board."

While it’s unlikely that a playoff between City and Liverpool will happen, it’s not impossible.
If the points are tied, the league is decided by goal differential. City has the highest differential with 68, while Liverpool trails just behind at 64. If goal differential is somehow tied also, the league is decided by goals scored. Man City has scored 90 goals, six more than Liverpool this season. Again, even though it looks very unlikely, you can never say never in the Premier League.
